Bail, FIR and trial work, led by Shafique Ahmed
Shafique Law Associates is led by Shafique Ahmed. We act for people accused of offences, for families trying to secure bail, and for complainants whose case is not moving.
Before we advise, we read the FIR, the sections applied and any documents you have. Then we tell you plainly what the next step is, what it involves, and what the risks are at that stage.

Criminal matters we take on
Bail
Pre-arrest and post-arrest bail
Pre-arrest bail is sought under section 498 of the Code of Criminal Procedure when a person expects to be arrested. Post-arrest bail is sought under section 497 once a person is in custody. We prepare the application, gather supporting documents and argue it in court.

Registration, cancellation and quashing
An FIR is registered under section 154 CrPC. If you are named in one, we review the allegations and the sections applied, and consider whether cancellation or quashing is possible. If the police refuse to register your complaint, we can apply to the Justice of Peace under section 22-A.
Ask about thisCriminal Trials
Defence from investigation to judgment
Once the police submit their report (challan) under section 173 CrPC, the case moves to trial. We represent accused persons at each stage: framing of the charge, prosecution evidence, cross-examination and final arguments.

Cases started directly in court
Some cases begin with a private complaint filed in court rather than an FIR. We draft complaints, take them through the preliminary inquiry, and represent clients in the proceedings that follow.
Ask about thisFirst steps
If an FIR has been registered against you
These steps apply to most cases. Your own situation may call for something different, so get advice early.
01
Get a copy of the FIR
It shows the sections applied and exactly what is alleged. Your lawyer needs it before advising on bail.
02
Do not give statements without advice
Avoid written or recorded statements about the allegations until you have spoken to a lawyer.
03
Keep your evidence
Save messages, receipts, agreements, photographs and the names of anyone who saw what happened.
04
Ask about bail early
If the offence is non-bailable and arrest is likely, pre-arrest bail should be considered without delay.
Questions
Criminal law questions
Short answers to questions clients ask us. Every case turns on its own facts, so speak to us before acting on any of them.
What is pre-arrest bail?
Pre-arrest bail protects a person from arrest in a particular case while the court considers the matter. It is sought under section 498 CrPC, usually first before the Court of Session. Courts expect a good reason, such as a false or mala fide accusation, so the application needs careful preparation.
Can an FIR be cancelled or quashed?
Sometimes. The police can recommend cancellation after investigation, and the High Court can quash an FIR in limited cases, for example where it discloses no offence. Whether either route is open depends on the facts, so we review the FIR before advising.
What can I do if the police refuse to register my FIR?
You can apply to the Justice of Peace, who is a Sessions Judge or Additional Sessions Judge, under section 22-A CrPC for a direction to the police. We prepare the application and the documents that support it.
Can you promise my case will succeed?
No. No honest lawyer can promise the result of a criminal case. What we can do is prepare thoroughly, explain the risks at each stage, and present your case as strongly as the facts allow.
Do you take criminal cases outside Lahore?
Yes. We are based in Lahore and also act in criminal matters in other cities in Pakistan. Call us with the details and we will tell you how we can help.
